Description: The X-29 was a supersonic, experimental research aircraft with forward swept wings built in 1984 by Grumman for NASA and … more The X-29 was a supersonic, experimental research aircraft with forward swept wings built in 1984 by Grumman for NASA and the Air Force. Only 2 were built and the X-29 had over 200 test flights until 1991. The aircraft was aerodynamically unstable and was controlled in flight by computerized wire technology designed by RCA which commissioned this promotional poster.
Although the X-29 was never in production, much of the technology and new materials that were developed for it went on to be important components of subsequent aircraft and armaments.
The photography was by the New York commercial photographer Truman Moore who signed the poster and applied his blind stamp on the lower left. This is an original giclee print on heavy coated stock. Poster has a pinhole at each corner. There are a few areas of scattered light foxing. No tears or edgewear. Ships rolled in a tube. less
