Signed lower right, 'Е. Баранов, Л. Величко' for Evgeny and Lydia Barnov (Russian-American, 20th century) and dated 2006. Titled, verso, on label, 'Traveling through Time'.
Born in Moscow, Evgeny and Lydia Baranov are celebrated for their jointly imagined and executed oil paintings. Evgeny received his Masters of Science in Architecture from Moscow Architectural Institute in 1984, and Lydia received the same degree in 1987, also from the Moscow Architectural Institute.
Evgeny is the author of a unique program for drawing and painting based on the traditional teaching methods of the Russian Imperial Art Academy. Lydia was elected the first USSR/USA ICMOS Exchange Program for Young Professionals in Architectural Preservation in 1989. The two met when they were both architects with the Institute of Special Projects in Restoration, Moscow. They married and moved to the United States in 1990 and first lived in Anchorage, Alaska before moving to to Carmel, California and, finally, to Pebble Beach where they currently live and paint.
Works by the Baranovs are held in private and public collections in over a dozen countries, including the United States, Canada, Great Britain, France, Germany, Spain, Italy, the Netherlands, Denmark and Australia. Their paintings are included in the collections of the British Royal Family, the Hearst Family and Clint Eastwood among others. Their works of Realism in portraiture, genre, landscape and still-life have also been featured in national art periodicals, including Art of the West, The Artist's Magazine, and Southwest Art.
