This Famille Rose snuff bottle with wood stand is superbly hand painted and decorated with lotus flowers, a symbol of purity, rebirth, and strength. Measuring 3" h and 3.5"h with the elegant wood stand by 1.5" diameter, stand 2" w by 0.5"H , it is signed .
Snuff bottles were utilized by the Chinese and Mongolians in the Qing Dynasty to store powdered tobacco - a practice sanctionned as smoking was prohibited at the time, and snuff seen as remedy for a number of illnesses, e.g. colds, headaches, and stomach issues.
