Fantastic use of light and shadow that reminds me of Edward Hopper's "Nighthawks" in a southwestern or Spanish setting.
The pools of light coming from the street lights and doorway are exquisite and draw the eye into this somewhat moody and quietly contemplative painting. Remnants of daylight from the sunset are visible in the deep azure background of the sky, clouds and mountains.
J. Endarair was known to have painted subjects in Equador and other South American settings. This is likely a village somewhere in South America, although it has a distinct California "feel" to it in my opinion.
Canvas appears to have been re-stretched at some point to allow it to fit into a standard frame size, it does not appear to have been significantly cut down in size.
Likely painted in the mid to late 20th century.
There are minor areas of damage - 2 very small holes in the canvas (less than 5mm) in the lower right quadrant of the painting - minor paint loss and barely noticeable
