This marvelous Hunt Diederich Art Deco Trompe L'oeil tea caddy is created in gorgeous silver [there are no marks identifying silver content] and consists of four separate pieces that are curved like a shamrock on a beautiful bun footed tray. Each leaf can be used to store different tea varieties. A) not engraved B) "Ceylon," C) engraved "China" D) not engraved. Hallmarks are: Tray has entwined HD within a shield=Hunt Diederich, New York. Other pieces have H within a shield or maker's mark has been scratched off. There is no sterling stamp. See below for additional information on this stunning artist. Measurements for this fabulous creation are: Height of individual caddies with tray=4-3/4 inches, Height of individual caddies without tray=4-3/8 inches, Width side to side=4-3/4 inches, Width of individual caddies=2-3/8 inches, Depth of each individual caddy=3-1/2 inches. Total weight=21.47 Troy ounces. This marvelous silver tea caddy has been well cared for, gently used and is in excellent antique condition. Wilhelm Hunt Diederich was born in Hungary in 1884 and emigrated to the United States in 1894. He is known primarily for his Art Deco sculptures and murals of figures and animals in metal. He is also known to have produced a small amount of silver items. After years of extensive travel, Diederich died in New York in 1953. less
