This work highlights the use of green and red colors, showing its intense chromatism and its characteristic expressionism. Freshly framed, it is a canvas attached to a piece of cardboard. The images serve as a of the state of the work. Signed on the lower left, "criado 87".
domingo criado lobato (1935 - 2007) was born on november 15, 1936 in tudela de duero, valladolid. He was self-taught in his training as a painter, a vocation that accompanied him since his youth. He worked in the carpentry and cabinetmaking workshops of renfe, until, in 1959, he began to collaborate with el norte de castilla as a cartoonist. Soon, he collaborated with more media and worked as an illustrator of books related to the literary and artistic world, as well as a poster designer for various public institutions, including seminci in valladolid.
the tendencies of his plastic art evolved over time from figurative portraiture to absolute expression. The castilian theme was fundamental in his work, both in landscape and people, being able to integrate in a personal poetics the best of his environment. His exquisite mastery of colors, often interpreted as a creative action of intensity and strength, stands out in his work.
an international artist, between 1962 and 1973 he spent long periods in france, italy and sweden, where he interacted with different artistic currents. His exhibitions were numerous, since in addition to attending group exhibitions with the group, he exhibited individually in countries like germany, france, great britain, usa, china, russia, etc.
the simancas group was a group of artists and intellectuals who, at the end of the 1970s, sought to broaden the horizons of local culture in valladolid and thus make castilla wider. In fact, the small town of simancas was the last place where these friends settled, but they began their journey in the relieve bookstore, located in the central street of cánovas del castillo, in the center of puebla. The group was to last for two decades. There were six of the most important painters: francisco sabadell (1922-1971), félix cuadrado lomas (1930-2021), fernando santiago (1932-2017), gabino gaona (1933-2007), domingo criado (1935-2007) and jorge vidal (1943-2006).
as already indicated, this group was a gathering of friends and there was no founding manifesto, but only a common intention: to bring fresh and personal art to castilla. Without a common approach to aesthetics, each member had different educational backgrounds and concerns, something palpable in their artistic productions. However, they were united in the plastic arts by a great independence in terms of what was established in valladolid society, where the academic and bourgeois reigned. They sought to explore different languages of modernity, relying on the historical avant-garde that were not yet fully assimilated in this environment.
