Arp armchair (plastic research workshop), association of Pierre Guariche, Joseph-André Motte and Michel Mortier, circa 1950. Model 641 (designed in 1955), in perfect condition, covered with a pearl gray Alcantara tissue.
Steiner ARP (plastic research workshop) founded in 1954 by Pierre Guariche, Michel Mortier and Joseph-André Motte is the meeting of three friends and young designers. The three designers, during the group's foundation, wished to shake up the codes of classicism by drawing new forms in order to create more accessible furniture. Major parts of the 20th century come from this new and fruitful association. We are thinking in particular of the series of storage furniture for the editor Minvielle or even the armchairs for Steiner. Joseph-André Motte and Michel Mortier are both from training in applied arts, Pierre Guariche is graduated from the decorative arts. All three met when they worked within the agency of designer Marcel Gascoin. In 1954, they participated in the Household Arts Fair and realized that they had the common desire to found an association, notably with the aim of creating a series of furniture desired by the editor Charles Minvielle. The three designers receive numerous prizes at the end of the competition organized by the Technical Center of Wood. The principle was to design practical furniture easily finding their place in small areas. The plastic research workshop ended in 1957. I have official proof of authenticity such as vintage catalogs,
