Handcrafted & hand-painted in Montelupo, Italy
Designed and made by hand in the heart of Tuscany, Natalia and Daria Dolfi's ceramics are a bold statement of Italian style. The work of the two sisters always succeeds in surprising and delighting, thanks to its distinctive sculptural quality and nature-inspired themes.
The family-owned business was founded in 1941 by Giovanni Dolfi and flourished with his son Silvano, a ceramic artist with a solid international reputation. Today, Daria and Natalia preserve their father's artistic legacy while building their own and following their individual talents and personalities.
Montelupo Fiorentino is a charming medieval hilltop town located just on the outskirts of Florence. It became a popular center for pottery making in the Middle Ages. Still, the craft flourished in the 16th century during the Italian Renaissance when Florentine merchants stopped in Montelupo to load their vessels with richly decorated majolicas and sailed on the Arno river and on to European cities, where eager collectors were waiting.
Montelupo is still an important center for handcrafted Tuscan pottery, with artisans' studios lining the streets downtown and dotting its surrounding countryside, together with tall cypresses and old mansions.
This ia a large, deep plate, similar in size to a charger and a deep dish or bowl. Hardware to hang the plate is attached. less
