A vintage impressionist tribal painting on canvas by the world-renowned Diné Navajo artist Robert Yellowhair (1937-2016). Yellowhair is known for his representations of Navajo culture and vivid paintings of kachinas, Indian pottery, jewelry, baskets and Native animals. His artwork has been displayed at the Smithsonian Museum in Washington, D.C., and his painting of John F. Kennedy can be found in the White House.
This still-life painting depicts an eagle kachina "Kwahu" standing behind a woven basket/vessel and a decorative polychrome ceramic bowl amid a field of grass. In Native American cultures, the eagle kachina represents strength and acts as an intermediary between the physical and spiritual world. The piece is signed by Yellowhair and dated 1980. It is matted and set in an original vintage Fredrix wood frame, custom-crafted in Mexico in 1980. less
