This seat features their … Read more Hale & Kilburn was founded in 1876 and primarily constructed seating for railways, subways, and trolleys. This seat features their walkover seat design where a lever under the seat allows the seat back to shift so the occupants could face forward or backward. Originally, their seats were constructed of cast-iron and were very heavy, but in 1902 they hired Edward Budd to construct them out of pressed steel, an innovation at the time that made them lighter, easier to produce, and more fire resistant. After being acquired by JP Morgan in 1911, they began to transition to parts for automobiles.

A custom wooden base has been made for this piece and new vintage fabric was added by a previous owner. The seat back sliding mechanism is in great condition.
