This " Creative Gardens " rare vintage 1958 first edition lithograph print Mid Century Modernist garden design landmark volume large hardcover book is an incredibly special and unique book to add to your library collection.
The hardcover book with dust jacket is published by Reinhold Publishing Corporation New York, printed in The United States in 1958 by Kingsport Press, Inc. Authored by James C. Rose, book design by Myron Hall III.
This is a rare opportunity for true garden design enthusiasts and Mid Century Modernism fans and collectors both as this beautiful coveted volume book is long out of print and very scarce to find.
James C. Rose ( 1913 - 1991 ) was a prominent landscape architect, pioneer in Modern Design and influential author of The Twentieth Century. He was one in a small group responsible for the revolution in Contemporary landscape planning. His style greatly influenced by Japanese garden design as an instrumental catalyst for The Modernism Design Movement.
In this landmark volume the first of his books, Rose explores his groundbreaking concepts of complete fusion of house and landscape instead of the traditional house plus garden practice, a rare Avant-Garde idea at the time. In the manner of Mies Van Der Rohe in architecture, the outward forms evolve from their inner content which, in the gardens shown here, is all nature. The result is an exhilarated awareness of our environment sparked with its original sense of wonder.
The rare out of print 1st edition large format hardcover design book measures 10" W X 13" H X 3/4" D, with 208 pages. It features 261 offset lithograph print illustrations, including 25 in full color.
It is in very good vintage condition consistent with age, use, and some visible light to moderate wear throughout. There are several small repaired closed tears in the dust jacket. Please see photos for condition reference. It is now being offered here for an excellent price. less
