The … Read more An antique painting of a reclining nude by the French artist Germaine Marcel-Béronneau dating from the early 20th century. The medium-sized artwork has been created from oils on hardboard and has been painted in the traditional Symbolism style. It portrays a naked red-haired woman lying on a bed with an open book and a vase of yellow flowers. the artist has used a bold palette of shades typical of the Symbolism movement. The painting has been signed with the initials of the artist on the lower right corner. It has been mounted in an ornate gold-tone wooden frame with a hanging ring on the reverse side. the back of the frame has a small cut-out opening to reveal the original hand-written ticket with artist's name and studio address.

Germaine Marcel-Béronneau (née Marchant) was a French artist from the region of Versailles. She was married to the acclaimed artist Pierre Marcel-Béronneau who was one of the principal Symbolism artists of the time. Germaine modelled for several of her husband's paintings including the 1905 work Salomé. See less
