Rare Cauldon Pottery Plate Made in England "Perry's Centennial 1913"Oliver Hazard Perry "We have met the enemy, and they are ours! "This 102 year old plate commemorates the victory in the Battle of Lake Erie in 1913.Backstamp reads - Cauldon England - "Perry's Centennial 1913"It measures 10.5" in diameter.Good overall condition. No chips or cracks.
The company is a direct descendant of the Ridgway firms that made pottery at Cauldon Place. John Ridgway sold his company to T. C. Brown-Westhead Moore & Company in 1855.
Harold Taylor Robinson, who owned J. A. Robinson & Sons, Ltd., bought Cauldon, Ltd. (formerly Brown-Westhead, Moore & Co.) and its Cauldon Place pottery in Shelton, Staffordshire, from the receivers in 1920. Robinson approached friends and investors to assist in his creating Cauldon Potteries, Ltd., to which Robinson sold Cauldon, Ltd. The company made earthenware and porcelain.
Robinson used Cauldon Potteries, Ltd, as the base to create a pottery empire. He merged J. A. Robinson & Sons, Ltd., and its subsidiary companies into Cauldon Potteries, Ltd. The company acquired Coalport Pottery in 1924. less
