This piece has aged perfectly with very minimal damage or loss to the artistic components. The Georgian Dog-Ear surround features flower and fan details set into an egg and dart trim. Above, an acanthus leaf frieze supports the mantel shelf that is decorated with bands of dentil, a smaller version of the floral egg and dart, alternating leaves, and a final cyma recta.
The finish is a result of a few different periods of light, natural tone stains that have faded intermittently into the stunning, one-of-a-kind finish that is present today. A true "survivor" example of hand-guided tool work with a completely hand-carved header block.
