Early 19th century Primitive Antique PA painted (faux grained) blanket/storage chest - footed 1820-1840 - Features a molded rectangular top … more Early 19th century Primitive Antique PA painted (faux grained) blanket/storage chest - footed 1820-1840 - Features a molded rectangular top enclosing a dovetailed box - interior compartment known as the 'ditty box' & hand turned bun feet. The 'ditty box' was often used to store scented candles or soap to add a lovely fragrance to the blankets & clothing stored. Paint is original. The handles on either side are later. Tulip poplar. These wonderful chests are not just for storage anymore as they make fabulous coffee tables. Just add a glass topper larger than the chest & you have a great coffee table & a conversation piece. less
