Three gorgeous antique cabinet cards with three-quarter-length portraits of Victorian women in black dresses. Dating to the mid to late 1800s, these black and white / sepia photographs are affixed to cardboard with the photography studio name on it (all from the St. Louis area).
Two of the photos were shot in a studio with lush backdrops of a drawing room; the third is in front of a Victorian house (probably also a studio backdrop). The women are severely dressed but with some ornamentation -- a lace collar and cuffs, rows of buttons, a locket and earrings, some shoulder epaulettes with dangling beads.
Cabinet cards were introduced in the 1860s, with peak popularity from 1870s to 1890s. They were a nice size (4 1/4 x 6 1/2 inches) for displaying in a cabinet, hence the name.
All three are in good condition. One has a bent top corner, one a little foxing. Please see photos for details. less
