Utilizing dense, old-growth oak, a gently arched seat back was hand-hewn then fitted to the frame which was assembled with full-mortise & tenon joinery. The framework for the seat ties into the back as well as the front legs with this type of hand-fitted assembly, reinforced by the armrest which is double-pegged for decades if not centuries of daily use. The lower back consists of uprights fastened in the same manner forming a framework for no less than seven hand-chamfered panels. The generously sized seat, deeper than most from this period, was intended for use with a full width cushion, but remains surprisingly comfortable as is. An ideal choice for the rustic decor, it works great in any casual placement in the home or office.
