The back is wooden and would not be easy to remove. The frame has a little damage. In Japan, Chrysanthemums symbolize royalty, longevity, and rejuvenation. The gallery that framed the watercolor seems to be out of business now. I would estimate that this piece was painted in the mid-1900s. The black characters mean Autumn Moon. Chrysanthemums bloom in the fall, so that makes sense. The red mark is the artist, but it is unreadable to me. less
