Massive and distinctive Murano glass ashtray has a strong line, with sharp, decisive cuts and very accentuated edges; the colors red (obtained with gold chloride) and yellow(obtained with a mixture of sulfur and cadmium) combine with harmony and precision. The ashtray was created between 1964 and 1968, in a small furnace in Murano (Italy) run by former Master Glassmakers of the Mandruzzato company who made the ashtray following the company's own style and using precisely the "vetro sommerso" technique. "Sommerso" was first devised in Murano in the late 1930s, but became popular in the 1950s thanks to the skill and inventiveness of Murano's master craftsmen. The technique of "sommerso glass” is that workmanship which, starting from a blown or solid glass, allows to obtain several overlapping layers of different colors with suggestive chromatic effects, this is possible by immersing the glass being worked in crucibles with different colors; the artifact results, thus, formed by several layers of different thickness and color such, to create incredible color effects and decorations within the object itself, the operation is not simple and is performed only by very experienced Master Glassmakers. After this step, the master glazier helping himself with special smooth tools gave the linear and geometric shape to our ashtray that once cooled passed to the delicate phase of flattening and polishing by hand with cork wheels, operations that allowed us to have the surfaces perfectly flattened, polished and shiny in an exceptional way. The Mandruzzato company is a renowned glass company based in Murano and is known for its exquisite glass creations, including ashtrays. Mandruzzato ashtrays are made using traditional glassblowing techniques perfected for generations in Murano. They are characterized by their vibrant colors, bold geometric patterns, eye-catching color combinations, and high-quality workmanship. Each ashtray is a unique piece of art, showcasing the skill and creativity of glass artisans. The artisans of the small Murano furnace have mastered the color of the glass with their trademark mastery, given the ashtray a strong and elegant shape, and processed and subjected the glass to their artistic sensibility, creating a unique and fantastic object that captivates us with its unparalleled workmanship that contributes to the special and engaging play of light. The ashtray is in good condition. Measures diameter cm.16 height cm.8. For all our shipments we use special packaging materials (wooden crates, styrofoam, etc.) for maximum protection and safety of the objects. less
