Vintage original etching, "Le Chemin de Fer, Paris," by Charles K. Gleeson, dating to the early 1900s. The etching is printed on paper and pencil signed with the artist's signature and the title of the work. This was part of a series by Gleeson from his international travels around 1910. It's a great industrial city scene, with trains, factories, bridges, smokestacks, and some traditional Paris buildings in the background.
Gleeson (1878-1971) was an etcher and painter from Connecticut. He studied in New York City at the Art Students League, at the St. Louis School of Fine Art, and at the Academie Grande Chaumiere in Paris. Exhibition venues included the Art Institute of Chicago, the Whitney Museum of American Art, and the World's Fair of 1939. His pieces are widely collected, including by the Smithsonian American Art Museum, Art Institute of Chicago, Carnegie Museum of Art, and St. Louis Art Museum.
The print is in very good condition, on lightly tanned paper. It comes in a matte but no frame (and the matte has some discoloration).
Size: 5 x 7 inches; 13 x 11.25 inches with matte
