Barrere and Thomas Paris manufactured this impressive terrestrial globe or lamp circa 1950. Geographer J. Forest designed it. This important glass globe is covered with print paper and rotates on a chromed metal and aluminum stand. Besides regular countries' maps, there are ocean currents and the main trade routes of the period. The electricity elements were updated to fit US standards. The lamp is in perfect working condition (check pic 2 and 3 with on and off conditions).
For the dating of this school globe, we used two pieces of information:
1) Mention of Afrique Occidentale Francaise:
French West Africa (in French: Afrique Occidentale Francaise or AOF) was a federation of eight French colonial territories in Africa: Mauritania, Senegal, French Sudan (now Mali), French Guinea, Ivory Coast, Upper Volta (now Burkina Faso), Dahomey (now Benin) and Niger. The capital of the Federation was Dakar. The Federation existed from 1895 to 1958.
2) Mention of Israel:
The country was created officially in 1948.
So we can determine that this globe was manufactured and in use between 1948 and 1958.
The globe is in good condition, with minor surface scratches due to normal use, but nothing obvious.
Measurements: 13.38 in diameter (34 cm) x 18.13 in high (46 cm). less
