These carved elder wood panels are from Jiangsu province in eastern China, dating back to 1880. Originally created as window screens, they allowed air to circulate while providing the home's inhabitants with a measure of privacy.
The two central panels boast main carvings of flower vases, embedded in scrolling patterns with scattered flower designs. The upper panels are carved with a similar motif, while the lower panels have a deep carving display, featuring another vase and flowers.
