the back can be lowered by pushing the back against and automatically through a system (original)of iron levers and springs pulls up the leg rest. you can see it from the photos armchair with normal back and fully lowered.
the armchair is original the upholstery has been completely replaced as the faux leather upholstery and the straps that support the upholstery, so it is very comfortable soft, it does not need any work.
