Carved from … more Antique wooden table, gong, hand-carved frame, fully restored by our workshops and covered in gold and silver leaf.
Carved from hardwood, two immortals clad in 24-carat gold leaf and silver leaf stand proudly on a wooden base carved with peony flowers.
In Buddhism, peonies are synonymous with sweetness, for wherever the young Buddha set foot, peonies bloomed.
In one hand, they hold a mallet, in the other, proudly supporting on their shoulders a finely sculpted structure, featuring a sumptuous peacock at its center, holding a magnificent copper gong.

The peacock, sacred bird of India, symbol of beauty, fertility and immortality.
In India, the peacock is a snake-killer, and is considered impervious to snake bites.
A whole new symbolism is born. The Peacock's struggle against the snake is akin to the struggle of light against darkness.
Held under the peacock's feet, the snake can do no more harm and must submit.
In addition to this, Hindus also believed that the peacock's coat came directly from the snake's venom, which, instead of killing it, gave it its "magical" colors, again symbolizing the channeling of evil into something flamboyant.
