Magnificent double sunburst doors by Billy Joe McCarroll and David Gillespe, USA, circa 1970s. Both sides of these interior doors are carefully carved thick redwood in a radiant sunburst pattern ebonized with deeply incised lines and finely modeled details exhibit the highest quality precision craftsmanship. Custom solid bronze sun-shaped handles on both doors interior and exterior. Created by Forms and Surfaces, Inc., California in the early 1970s.
You may notice the right door is 1/2” shorter than the left door. This was intentional for the installation and can be framed to match by your installer very easily.
From the Connecticut estate of late author Bruce Becker who was an avid collector of global art and objects. His collection of pieces including these doors were imported from many parts of the world.
Documented in California Design Eleven, Pasadena Art Museum, page 67
