They are clean and shiny and there are no chips, cracks or deep scratches; light scratches can be found on some areas of brass. Hinged lids and clasp closures are on balance and close completely and properly. The removable lighter mechanism insert seems to be in working order but would need to be tested with a new flint and lighter fluid. If needed, this mechanism may be repairable or replaceable at the option and responsibility of the buyer. less

more
This rare Italian Mid-Century Modern Murano 'smoking set' was hand blown on the Venetian island of Murano in delicate lavender-pink translucent and opalescent 'Opaline' glass and is mounted with smooth gilt-brass hinged lids and shell motif clasps.
The tall cylindrical box was likely designed to hold cigarettes although it may be used as a trinket box and makes a lovely display piece. The smaller cylindrical table lighter contains the original removable brass-toned lighter mechanism American made by Evans.
Although the lighter mechanism sparks when the thumb lever is pushed and may operate properly with a new flint and lighter fluid, no warranty for proper operation of the lighter mechanism is being made; any repair of or a replacement of the existing lighter mechanism would be the responsibility (and at the cost) of buyer.
Both of these pieces have been professionally inspected, affirmed and documented as authentic Murano art glass and dated to the 1960's, an era during which Murano glass work was frequently unsigned and unmarked (as are these). Although they display similarities to works by Murano artisan Fratelli Ferro and might be his work or that of his studio, NO such professional attribution has been made.
The cigarette or trinket box is 4.25 inches tall and 2.25 inches in diameter.
The lighter is 3.625 inches tall and 2.25 inch in diameter. less
