Aesthetic Transferware (c 1861-84)
This pair of charming dinner plates were made by the Old Hall Earthenware Co. Ltd. of Hanley, England, in business form 1861 to about 1884. The pattern is called "Basket." It shows an Aesthetic Movement design of a basket filled with flowers, on a background that looks like a basket-weave, with leaves and butterflies, and a thin brownish-red border around the rim.
The plates measure just a hair of 10.5 inches (not quite 10-5/8 inches). They show their age, and are only in fair condition. One plate (left, in the first picture) has a large chip on the back edge of the rim, and and both plates have thickened crazed lines (borderline cracks, though they feel smooth, not rough), mainly visible from the back. There is also overall crazing on both plates, which has begun to darken. So I would not recommend you try using these, and definitely no dishwasher. But they would make a very pretty display on a wall or shelf.
The back of each plate has the "Basket" pattern name, with "Old Hall | England | E'Ware Co. (L)." There is also an impressed circle mark in the back-center, as well as red hand-written decorator marks.
