Original Japanese handmade jug or watering can made of bamboo wood during the Taishō Period or Era (1912 - 1926), which is as useful as it is decorative. Objects made from bamboo take advantage of the flexibility and natural rustic aesthetics of the material itself, which, despite its flexibility, is very resistant, and precisely for this reason is a symbol of strength and durability in this culture.
Bamboo is a very popular material in Japan, which is used extensively. Japanese bamboo craftsmanship is called takezaiku and can be found in traditional architecture, but also in decorative objects such as lamps or vases, tools such as baskets and fishing nets, personal hygiene items such as combs, and even shoes, hats, fans, weapons, instruments, toys\.
The development of bamboo wood craftsmanship is linked to the influence of the art of tea. The rise of the tea ceremony became popular during the Muromachi period (1336-1573). Early Japanese craftsmen were inspired by Chinese models, although bamboo was actually in use as early as the Jomon period (10 500 BC - 300 BC). However, it was in the Edo period (1600-1868) that it also became popular among the common people, who began to appreciate bamboo work for all kinds of decorative and everyday items. Today, bamboo craftsmanship is appreciated for its distinctly Japanese character and is considered a distinctive form of contemporary craftsmanship. less
