Two liqueur bowls with dancer, design Karl Hagenauer, manufactured by Werkstatte Hagenauer Vienna, ca. 1930, alpacca, marked Karl Hagenauer designed a liqueur service in the late 1920s, originally consisting of a set of six liqueur glasses with a tray. We now offer separately two of these delightful liqueur bowls. Like in the original version by Karl Hagenauer, both are made of alpacca. In the earliest version, the service was also available in silver, and later, for easier handling and in order to make the objects more corrosion resistant, especially for overseas transport, it was made of nickel-plated brass. Light-footed, on tiptoes and with a bent knee, the dancers juggle their small bowls above their heads. Their elongated limbs and charming details, such as the tiny bun, lend the figures an exceedingly graceful elegance. The design of the figurines was likely inspired by the revue dancers of the grand Parisian Varietés that captivated all of Europe in the 1920s. The attribution to the early period of Werkstatte Hagenauer makes these two dancing ladies a very interesting collector’s item. marked each with “wHw” in the circle, “MADE IN/AUSTRIA” Bib.: Olga Kronsteiner, Monika Wenzl-Bachmeier (eds.), Hagenauer – Viennese Modernism and New Realism, exhibition catalogue Wagner:Werk Postsparkasse, Vienna 2011, p.30 This piece has an attribution mark,
