Description: Offered here is a large vintage cheese box with intricately colorful village scene painted around the bottom. The lid is … more Offered here is a large vintage cheese box with intricately colorful village scene painted around the bottom. The lid is hand stenciled on top: FROM THE SOUTH PARIS DAIRYING ASSOCIATION, SOUTH PARIS, ME. It is also hand signed, F. HATCH (I believe the last word to be BALDWIN.) Around the outer lid edge is a hand painted red and green draped ribbon garland with tassels. Also there is some faint lettering on the outside perimeter that it's a Whitney & Billings Box. The box measures 8 1/8 inches high by 16 ½ inches in diameter; it is clean and in what I consider very good to excellent age-related condition. The bottom round panel fits solidly in the bottom and has no holes. The lid rim is solidly anchored with one missing nail, causing center panel to slightly move, but is otherwise secure. One nail is visible on the bottom edge and is an old square nail which helps identify the box's age. The color of the box is an aged-warm amber maple color which blends lovely with the paintings. It’s quite nice. less
