This item comes in two pieces, the gilded two-handled urn style vase and the base (or stand). It is wonderful to offer a base that also depicts a mythology scene along with the vessel itself.
The ‘Three Graces’ a neoclassical allegorical scene, Empire Period. Dancing for the gods with the sound of the tambourine. In Greek mythology, goddesses of charm, beauty and creativity. In Roman mythology, they were known as the Gratiae (Graces).
Three Graces were the daughters of Zeus and the nymph Eurynome and they presided over dances, banquets, and all pleasurable social events. They were believed to bring goodwill to both gods and mortals and to endow artists and poets with the ability to create beautiful works of art.
Condition-as found condition from large antique collection estate sale. Crazing is shown. No cracks or chips. Gilding shows minimal wear in good antique condition- wear on upper handles. Also shown is green paint repair over original -upper right of scene on vase. See last photo.
