Vintage mid century heavy solid brass ornate Dhokra elephant shaped trinket box, hand made in India. This piece is unique and substantial! It is extremely heavy and intricately hand-hammered with texture elements. These specific pieces were often designed to store betel nuts (the areca nut is the seed of the areca palm) which were traditionally chewed as a digestive stimulant and mild narcotic. But they can not be used to store and display your favorite treasures / accessories. This piece of hand made art opens up with a hinged lid that latches closed on the front...boasting ample storage space inside. A lock could be added to the latch if you wish. It is footed, making it very elegant and sturdy.
