It has its original labels on the bottom, marking it safe from alcohol, and safe to use with hot or cold foods. We're not sure what the alcohol is referring to, but suggest you don't use this as a drinking vessel. It is very much in the style of Arthur Umanoff's work in Haiti with Pantalcraft, but is marked "Ralph". Needless to say, you can separate your cashews from your peanuts from your almonds or macadamia nuts, or your baby carrots from your cauliflower from yourcherrzy tomatoes, or your red from your yellow from your brown M&Ms. - ps - it also is lovely just as a centerpiece bowl, the wood grain is lovely and it has a golden tan patina - the wood has aged beautifully.
