This Really is a Great Looking Original Matched Pair of Oil Burning ( Kerosene ) Deck Lanterns that would have Been Removed - Salvaged from a Large Size Ship. The Sliding Panel Backs are Faintly Stamped with The "B E C" - BIRMINGHAM ENGINEERING COMPANY Makers Logo and Dated 1945. One of the Lanterns has a Attached Embossed Brass Label at the Front Base that Reads BIRMINGHAM ENGINEERING COMPANY LTD. 63 PERSHORE STREET - BIRMINGHAM 5. It Also Has an Embossed Attached Brass Label that Reads MASTHEAD PATT. 25 A. Note That the Other Lantern is Missing the 2 Brass Labels. They are Substantially Made Out of Heavy Gauge Steel with Solid Cast Brass Mounting Hardware Etc. The Original Burners - Oil Reservoirs are Made Out of Steel with a Series of Solid Cast Brass Functional Parts - Attachments. NOTE The Elaborate 4 Wick Adjustable Oil Burner Mechanism. They Also have a Nickel Plated Brass Reflector and a Small Flame Viewing Glass Mounted Window. The Tops have Heavy Hinged Cast Brass Hanger - Mounting Brackets that can Also be Used as Carry Handles. Note that the Oil Reservoirs - Tanks are Completely Empty - Dry - Have No Left Over Oil Residue at This Time. The Braided Cloth Wicks are Missing but the Adjustment Mechanism - Rotatable Knobs are in Working Order so I Have Every Reason to Believe that With a Good Cleaning - New Wicks Installed and Filled with Lamp Oil They Could Then be Functional ?. They Still Retain their Thick Molded Glass Magnifying Lenses ( 2 in Each Lamp - 4 Total ) - 1 with a Couple Small Chips at the Center Seam. Overall Condition Can Best Be Described as Quite Rustic - Age and Use Related Acquired - Weathered and Worn - Etc. Giving Them an Obviously Authentic Old Look. They are Quite Heavy Weighing Slightly Under 10 Pounds Each. Perfect for a Rustic - Nautical - Industrialist - Primitive Setting Etc.
