Description
Rare and seldom seen 36 Star Lincoln Civil War Presidential Campaign “Kerchief”. From Abraham Lincoln second Presidential Campaign. These were used at the national nominating conventions to wave and show support for your candidate. Made of silk with stitched border. The flag was made by stenciling the design on to the silk kerchief. This has been the typical process for this for hundreds of years. The flag has upside down stars.. It has two 9 Star Flags in each corner which is very unusual. Circa 1864-1865 Silk was very expensive during this time so only a wealthy person could afford it. Very good condition. This certainly falls into the patriotic Americana category
Lincoln won two elections, the first in 1860 and the second in 1864. In 1860 we had 34 States and in the 1864 election we had 36 States So this textile dates to around 1864 for Lincolns second election and inauguration.
