The Atlantic Garden opened on The Bowery in 1858 and served as a cultural hub for early German American, and later Yiddish, immigrants. It was built on the site of The Bull’s Head Tavern, which opened in 1750, famously counted George Washington as a patron, and is considered one of the most important brewpubs in American history. less
