This is a Absolutely Beautiful and Very Fine Quality Pair of Antique Opera Glasses - Binoculars. Circa Very Late 1800s. They are Embossed with Patent Dates of 1882 and 1895. NOTE that The Configuration of the Center Mounted Telescoping Viewing Handle Allows for the Very Unusual Mechanical Rotating Cylinder Focusing Function While In Use Viewing ( Please See Last - 12th Photograph). NOTE ALSO That the Handle Can Easily Be Removed so that They Can Also be Used Without the Handle and Reattached When Needed. Just Turn The Handle Counter Clockwise to Unscrew and Remove the Handle. To Reattach the Handle Very Carefully Line up The Square Peg with the Square Hole in the Handle and Gently Screw - Turn Clockwise. They are Made out of Brass with a Fine Gold Gilt Finish. The Bodies are Laminated with Beautiful High Quality Genuine White Albino - Rainbow Mother of Pearl ( Shell ). They are Signed by the Well Documented - Premier Paris France Maker "LEMAIRE" - PARIS on 1 of the Eyepieces and WILLIAM NAGEL - PADUCAH KY. - This Being the Store at Which They Were Originally Purchased. They are Also Embossed - Signed at The Bottom Cap on the Handle. Note that Lamaire Produced Various Grades of Opera Glasses and These would have Been their Upper Line with their Best Lenses - Optics Etc. The Front has been Hand Engraved with the Original Owners Name - J. D. SMITH JR - PADUCAH KENTUCKY ( Can you Say Kentucky Derby ? ). They are in Very Nice Overall Original Cosmetic and Functional Condition - Display Beautifully. There is Some Very Light Gilt Surface Finger Wear to the Handle Rotating Focus Wheel Area. I have Also Cleaned the Internal Glass Lenses so they are Ready to be Used and Enjoyed. They Can Also Be Displayed Beautifully as a Unique Decorator Item. If You Have Been in the Market for a Set of Antique Opera Glasses it would be Hard to Find a Better or More Unusual Pair.
