This excellent map is from Antonio Zatta's "Atlante novissimo, illustrato ed accresciuto sulle osservazioni, e scoperte fatte dai più celebri e più recenti geografi, che ora per la prima volta si produce".
The work was published in Venice between 1775 and 1785 and consisted of four volumes
This was one of the most comprehensive and stunning world atlases published in Italy in the 18th century.
Antonio Zatta (1722-1804) was an Italian editor, cartographer, and publisher. He was particularly active between 1757 and 1797, and is mostly known for the atlas presented here, "Atlante Novissimo".
He updated and redefined the traditional title cartouche by replacing the mythical elements common to the 17th and 18th century with more representative images. While balancing art and information, he was aiming for more scientific approach and better accuracy.
In this work he published the first impression of the Islands visited by Captain Cook.
