This painting is much more clever than at first glance. There is a brilliant balance of geometry, abstract and representation all in one painting. Furthermore, there is also a mid century modern vintage feel to the overall piece. This is achieved with the figurative detail with its bygone era dress and hat.
Our eye is drawn to the cottage in the distance next to a large block like cliffside. It's a streamlined landscape that has an air of serenity and mystery as a figure and her dogs are walking away from us.
It's primarily a modernist approach to a simple seaside painting. Blocks of dark colors contrast with creams and pink creating depth and character. This painting is executed with a level of unmistakble excellence and skill.

The Flemish Renaissance, Mughal portraiture, Classicism and Cubism are primary references for my work. The subject always begins in the representational form with a contrasting background. Through layers of paint and glazing, the work evolves into the abstract or remains representational. Although divergent in process, each painting unfolds from a deeply intuitive, personal and imaginative narrative.
