It is difficult to explain what caused the patina, it might just be the trunk had been in an environment where the wood shrank which caused the lacquer to peel. Or it might just simply be an error in the lacquering process and the correct adhesion did not take place. These are conjectures of course, but the result is quite stunning. The trunk has large storage capacity. It came from Shanxi Province in North Central China. The style is Ming Dynasty and the age is 19 century or older. Dimensions are 35 inches wide, 22 inches deep and 23 inches high. less
