19th Century German Pine Sleigh Bed

(Proprietor was Joachim Wolf who … more This antique sleigh bed was purchased at Annalisa Wolf Antiques in San Francisco in 1989. (Proprietor was Joachim Wolf who worked with several well known interior designers.) It has a lovely high headboard with carved wood details on the headboard and footboard.

At my request the shop had their master craftsman add an extension to the bedrails so that it would accommodate a 75" twin mattress. The bed made a sweet and cozy addition to a child's bedroom for 15 years before we retired it to climate controlled storage.

The pine wood reflects its age and usage but is in fine shape with no presence of any wood eating insects--it was thoroughly fumigated long before our purchase. It holds a 75" twin mattress comfortably. We used wood slats (not included) to support the mattress but it would also accommodate a very shallow boxspring.
