The headboards were made to accommodate the change in width. Both headboards have had a board added to the back to support the extra height of the headboards. The side rails are more modern but the correct style. I have numbered rails and posts to make it easier to set them up. The rails and posts are specific to each other. You will need a bed wrench to tighten the bed bolts. There are minor scratches and wear to the finish as expected with use and age. As to the size a modern twin size mattress is 38" by 75". Inside the rails the beds measure 38 3/4" by 73 1/2". So the beds miss on the length by 1 1/2". If you look at the last photo you can see how the bed post sticks into the corner. If it didnt do this the length would be real close. less
