This is a quite stunning Russian brass Samovar from the early 20th Century. It measures approximately 17 1/2" height and weighs over 16lb - which gives you an idea of its magnificence!
Made of brass, metal, wood (handles) and copper (in parts) it has bold detail and turned handles hinting back to the Empire era. Both the samovar and tray have maker's marks. A kindly expert in Russian antiques reached out and told me: "Your samovar is lovely. I thought you might like to know that the circle mark with the head depicts Tsar Nicholas. I can't make it out from your photo but if he is facing right it was made after 1900. If left, it was made prior to 1900. The collar on the top would have held a china teapot. I have collected Russian antiques for many years and just thought it might interest you."
So I took another look at the "circle marks" and they are somewhat worn, and I can't make out which way the head is facing but I think it's safe to assume this piece is round about 1900.
The tray is hammered brass. The tap turns fine and can actually be quite easily removed altogether. Besides the tray, the top two pieces of the samovar can also be removed.
I've never actually used this samovar so I'm unsure as to its complete working status, yet it appears to be intact and functional to my layman eyes.
This samovar really is going to be the talk of whichever room it eventually finds itself in.
Measurements: The samovar is 17 1/2" height x 15 1/2" width x 14 1/2" depth (including tap). The tray measures 17 1/4" x 14 3/4" x 1/2". Both pieces together weigh 16lb 7oz.
All our items are well packed, tracked and fully insured. It will arrive to you in the exact condition as pictured.
Local pick-up from Los Angeles 90291 also available.
VINTAGE CHUCK SAYS: This is the only one I have so don't delay if you want to make it yours. :o)
