RARE! This is an original 1904 botanical drawing from a French portfolio of 4 volumes called "Encyclopedie de la Plante", an “artistique” and “documentaire” collection of botanical prints.
This lithograph is of the "Pensee" (Pansy). This Beaux-Arts collection was originally used for edification and research on plants from throughout the world.. The name pansy is known as the flower of remembrance, referring to a lover who is devoted to everlasting thoughts of his beloved. It is an eye-catching flower best known for its 4 overlapping petals in varying colors and popular today as cultivated flowers. This a drawn illustration signed by the artist, M Meheut. Note the elaborate and intricate detailing in the buds, blossoms, leaves, and stems of the anatomical drawing. Excellent, clean, pristine. 11.5 x 15.25 inches. less
