YOUR GUIDE TO ALL THINGS PAUL McCOBB

Paul McCobb is one of the biggest names in Mid-Century Modern design. He took the 1950s and 60s by storm and established himself as one of the biggest and brightest designers of the time. Paul McCobb designed a wide range of interior decor—radios and televisions included. He even had his own design column which ran in newspapers across America.

Paul received the MoMA's Good Design Award five times, as well as the Philadelphia Museum of Arts' Contribution to Better Design Award in 1959. Before all the success came his way, Paul McCobb had humble beginnings. He began as a window dresser after dropping out of college, before working his way up. In his career he partnered with some of the biggest brands such as Directional and became one of the most famous designers of his time. What a star!

Understanding Paul McCobb's Style

Paul believed in the mantra of keeping in simple. Think: beautiful designs without compromising function for decoration. His design's sculptural forms were neoclassical at heart. Mix the beauty of Paul McCobb’s designs, a postwar increase in demand for furnishings, and the coexistence of function and style and you have a match made in furniture heaven. In the mid-20th Century, Paul McCobb’s furniture became the "it" thing amongst American homes. At the turn of the 21st Century, an appreciation for stylish, functional furniture came back into vogue and Paul McCobb’s designs drew the popular vote once again. Paul for President!

Paul McCobb & Planner Group

The Planner group series designed by Paul McCobb was and continues to be his biggest success. The Planner series was extensive, including desks, chairs, cabinets, bed frames, dining table and chair sets, chests among other things. Paul McCobb’s furniture was designed in mid-century but can easily be used in contemporary rooms as well. The dressers in the Paul McCobb Planner group collection continue to be a success even today. The gorgeous wood, sleek lines of designs and a little bit of that elusive mid-century magic—where do we sign up?
