Chances are that unless you live in an apartment with petite proportions, you haven’t considered a love seat. Generally only reserved for those occasions when a standard sofa won’t fit, love seats don’t often get the, well, love they should. Here, we spotlight three reasons why a love seat might just be the perfect piece for your space!

1. It can widen the conversation zone
When decorating a living room, most of us default to a sofa and one or two accent chairs. However, a standard sofa set opposite a love seat can be a fantastic way to mix things up. In addition to appearing less expected, using a love seat in addition to a sofa increases how many people your living room can accommodate — here widening the conversation zone. Avoid the temptation to match your sofa and loveseat perfectly — or, at the very least, opt for contrasting fabrics.
2. It can provide more floorplan flexibility
Yes, your living room can probably accommodate a 90” sofa. But does that mean it should? If your living room is on the smaller side, it’s sometimes wiser to go a bit smaller with your sofa. Using a love seat — which typically clocks in at about 60” — will generally allow you more floorplan flexibility. Most living rooms have more than one wall that’s long enough to accommodate one, upping your design possibilities.
3. They’re a safer way to introduce pattern
If you’ve ever fantasized about a patterned sofa, but shelved the idea because it seemed like too big of a risk, you might consider a patterned a love seat instead. Since love seats aren’t as large as standard sofas, a patterned design won’t be quite as much of a sweeping statement piece.
