What is vintage furniture?
Vintage furniture is generally considered to be any piece that dates between 20 and 99 years old. In contrast, an antique is typically considered to be any piece that dates more than 100 years old. Some vendors will make additional stipulations in order for furniture to be considered vintage, such as the furniture piece must be worthy of being collected. In this case, a mass-produced plywood desk from 20 years ago may not qualify as vintage, but rather would fall into the “used” category. If you are vintage hunting, it can be helpful to widen your search to include some other applicable search terms such as “retro” or “used.” If you know the specific vintage style you’re looking for, you can also include those terms in your search. Some examples that fall within the vintage timeline might be “Mid-Century Modern,” “Hollywood Regency,” “Danish Modern,” “Memphis,” and “Post-Modern,” among others.
