A long, narrow table is known as a console table. Console tables are typically long and narrow, with a height that is similar to that of a standard dining table. (About 30.”) They are often placed against a wall in a hallway, entryway, or living room, and can be used as both decorative and functional pieces of furniture. Functionally speaking, they can provide a place to rest keys, bags, or mail when coming in the door, or preparing to go out the door. Consoles are often used to display decorative items, as well, such as vases, picture frames, or other decorative treasures.
Console tables can be constructed of any number of materials, although wood, metal, or glass are the most popular options. Some common design motifs you’ll find among console tables include waterfall edges, parentheses-style legs, or pedestal bases.
