How tall should a nightstand be?
Nightstands should measure somewhere between 2″ lower and 6″ higher than your mattress’s top. This means that if your mattress measures 25″ high, ideally, your nightstand should measure somewhere between 23″ and 31″ high. The logic behind these measurements? It’s generally considered easier to reach upwards than downwards when lying in bed. So should you need to retrieve an item off your nightstand’s top, it will be easier to reach upwards a few extra inches than downwards. Conveniently, most mass-produced nightstands clock in between 24″ and 28″ tall, making it relatively easy to find a nightstand that suits your needs. In addition to considering your bed’s height in relation to your nightstand, it’s also worthwhile to consider your bed’s size in relation to your nightstand. If you have a King size mattress (which measures in at a whopping 76″ wide), it’s best to consider a nightstand with more heft than if you own a full-size mattress.
