How high should you hang wall art?
To take a page from the gallery pros, art should always be hung so that its center measures exactly 57” inches from the floor. Some prefer to be a little laxer with that number (and accommodate the more vertically endowed among us) and consider any height between 57” and 60” to be totally fine. Why 57”? Clocking in at 4’9,” it’s the standard eye height of the average person.
Wondering where to plant a nail to ensure the center of your art is 57” from the floor? First, measure the height of your art and divide that number in two. For instance if your art’s height is 60,” record 30.” Next, measure the distance between the highest point of your art’s picture hanging wire (when pulled taut like it will hang when it’s on the wall) and the top of your art. In this scenario, let’s say it’s 3”. After, subtract the height of your art divided by two by the distance between the highest point of your art’s picture hanging wire. (In our example: 30” — 3” = 27″). Finally, measure 57” on the wall you intend to hang your art on and add the number you just calculated. (In our example: 57” + 27” = 84″). This is where you should embed your nail.
